Minutes
A total of 17 attendees from 9 Asia Pacific organizations were present during the AP* Retreat Brisbane Meeting, 14 September 2014.
At the start of the meeting, the chairs asked the attendees to review the agenda and it was decided to follow the current agenda and if need be, changes in the agenda during the course of the meeting shall be decided accordingly and reflected below.
1. AP* Organization Reports and Update
1.1 APIX
Questions for APIX:
Q: How involved is Internet Society with APIX?
A: Currently having talks with Internet society
Q:IX on Internet Governance
A: APIX is not so aware of Internet governance
Q:Is there any report on APIX contribution on developing countries
A: APIX currently does not have a compilation of such report.
Comments: People from the government don’t know what IXP is; they do not know how IXP work. People also assume that IXP generate funds.
An attendee suggested that associations should work with the government.

1.4 APTLD
Questions for APTLD:
Q: Are ccTLDs in the Asia Pacific, members of APTLD?
A: No
Q; Are fellowships beneficial?
A: We need to do a joint evaluation of the fellowship.
Action: Development Director from APNIC will coordinate a review of fellowship from various AP regions

2.1 AP* collaboration
– Regional Calendar
Action: The AP* Secretariat shall manage an AP Organization regional calendar of activities. The secretariat is to utilize NSRC’s calendar of events.
– Mailing list
Mailing lists information shall be added in the website:
announce@apstar- for announcements, only secretariat can post
discuss@apstar- group discussions on AP Internet issues; anyone can post but shall be moderated by the secretariat;
2.2 IANA Stewardship
-shall be further discussed during the consultation session
2.3 Engagement of the Pacific Region
Mostly through remote participation.
Remote participation has to be a two-way communication and must have good content in order to have an active participation
2.4 ICANN Accountability and AP* Community
-shall be further discussed with ICANN’s update
2.5 Youth Engagement in meeting deployment
One of the attendees commented that isolating the youth in meetings is not training them, instead we must let them join meetings.
Strategies that we can apply: Mentoring
- To draw up an internet curriculum for universities. We need to give students credit when they attend such meetings/ activities.
- Combining events with competition makes it more interactive and makes the youth more in touch with the industry.
3. AP* Organization Reports and Update (afternoon)
3.1 ICANN
With regards to Thai IDN script, an attendee commented that this has been done.
Action: Thai TLD script is to be shared with ICANN
3.2 IntERLab

3.3 APAN
The presenter mentioned that there were youth attendees during the last APAN Meeting in Taiwan which were supported by TEIN and KARIN.
It was also commented that visa issues for Central Asia participants hinder them from attending the meetings.
3.4 DotAsia and APrIGF
No comments/ questions were asked for DotAsia and APrIGF
3.5 AP* Secretariat Report
Q: Where does the AP* Secretariat get the funding?
A: The Secretariat is currently operating using the remaining funds collected during previous meetings and also with support from Internet Society. The travelling expenses of the secretariat during meetings are being supported by APIA.
Action: intERLab shall write to AP organizations to support AP* Funding.

Next AP* Retreat Meeting: 1 March 2015 at Fukuoka, Japan in conjunction with APRICOT 2015.
